The Importance of Prevention in Behavior Management

I'd say my biggest takeaway from the book is this idea of prevention or proactive behavior management rather than reactive behavior management. People very frequently don't have a very clear idea of what they mean themselves by good behavior, he says. I've got young children that lost a habit of reading long texts because you're helping them over and over again to focus on how to do it better. So teaching literacy skills first of all before their lives are at risk - not just phonetically but also in terms of meaning and context. And then once we acknowledge that we need to be explicit, we have to acknowledge that some kids aren't very good at it.
