The Paradox of Exclusion in Cooperative Practice

Rachel andye, that was a major concern for me. And i think i spent a fair amount of time in the book talking about something that i call the paradox of exclusivity. In order for a coop to succeed, it needs to draw a boundary around itself. But if that boundary is drawn in such a way that it's exclusive in a negative sense, whether it's through excluding people on the basis of race, class, age, ability, gender, et cetera, then that's obviously pernicious boundaries. That creates a kind of exclusivity that's really dangerous.
