China's Small Amphibious Fleet Could Be a Solution to the Problem
There are those who would point toward China's massive civilian and state cargo ship fleet as a solution to the problem. These are the same ships that are usually used for day-to-day transport of goods. If an amphibious landing in Taiwan could successfully secure a port somewhere on the Taiwanese coast, it would then be very easy to use these civilian ships to bring troops, vehicles and equipment across the channel. So yes, China could use civilian vessels, but I see that as kind of a stopgap given a lack of actual military transport ships with some self-defense capability.
