The Bell Jar and Plays at Lays
I feel like the job of the writer is to say complex things in simple ways and to compress. That's the hard work that you're doing on behalf of the reader. I was reading a lot of the Bell Jar and plays at Lays and both gave me permission to pull in current events because they both really are engaging with the world as it existed. Plus if it's going to be in San Francisco, you can't avoid it. You're going to have to just do it.
