The ancient idea is virtue in response to fate. The virtuous man, the virtuous person, and we can't rid of the sexism, is the person who can most appropriately respond to fate. And what I see is our fragmentation, our political fragmentation actually cuts and severs that response of relationship. We're either on one side talking about virtue and ignoring the human beings of subject to fate, or we're talking about fate and ignoring the fact that human beings need to cultivate virtue inresponse to it.
