Willard Richards' Journal and the Carthage Jail
While in the jail, Richard's had more time to devote to his journal than he usually did. A few days later, he published a newspaper article based on his private journal but expanded on what he had written there. Willard Richards own accounts both in his journal and that two minutes in jail article are really the best accounts of what's happening in the room at the time of the attack. John Taylor who's also present of course and survives the event doesn't write his own account until many years later. Those are the accounts associated with the men who were in the jail with Joseph and Hiram Smith.
