There were also concerns about whether reading was a moral activity or somehow indulgent ita, right? Were the forms of reading that were dered immoral or a waste of time? I mean, peeps sort of demonstrates this, and he has quite a lot of disposable income to throw away. So you learn to read, so you can read the bible to yourself,. if you are a protestant, and it is a good thing to spend some of your time reading religious works. There's a sort of counterweight. Peeps at least, can get a bit uneasy about spending his time reading romances or various forms of light literature.
