The Power of Abuse in the Genesis Story
People with power and privilege are in danger of thinking they can do whatever they wish. Shechem should have provided some protection for the young girl, his daughter living under his roof. The man who rapes her then says he's attracted to her. His heart was drawn to Diana, the daughter of Jacob. He loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her. So even though he's violated her, it says he's fallen in love with her and he wants to marry her.
