Tom Foreman: I'm delighted to have somebody interview me on the contents of a book. That is a rare occasion indeed. So we'll start with our traditional question, which is, can you tell us a little bit about your academic intellectual background that eventually led you to an engagement with the work of Bateson in particular and the sort of field of cybernetics or related areas in general?Foreman: Well, I am professionally an anthropologist. And it has beensort of a devious encounter with Bateson and even more a devious encounters through cybernetics because I'm not trained at all in mathematics.
