Tableaux d'une exposition

suite pour piano
Book •
Pictures at an Exhibition is a suite of ten pieces composed for piano by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky in 1874.

Inspired by a visit to a memorial exhibition of paintings, watercolors, and drawings by Viktor Hartmann, the suite musically depicts the viewer's stroll through the exhibition, with each piece representing a different artwork.

The suite is characterized by its vivid musical imagery and innovative harmonies, capturing the essence of each artwork in a unique and expressive manner.

A recurring Promenade theme represents the composer himself walking through the gallery.

It has since become one of Mussorgsky's most famous and frequently performed works, often adapted and orchestrated by other composers, including Maurice Ravel.
