Left Behind, Book 1, Volume I
A Novel of the Earth’s Last Days – Part One
Book • 1995
“Left Behind, Book 1, Volume I” is the first part of the novel “Left Behind: A Novel of the Earth’s Last Days,” inaugurating the popular Christian end‑times series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.
The story begins with airline pilot Rayford Steele and journalist Cameron “Buck” Williams when millions of people suddenly vanish worldwide, an event interpreted as the biblical Rapture.
As Rayford discovers that his devout wife and young son are gone while he and his daughter Chloe remain, he wrestles with guilt, faith, and the realization that apocalyptic prophecies are unfolding.
In parallel, Buck navigates political intrigue and encounters Nicolae Carpathia, a rising Romanian leader at the United Nations who will become central to the developing global crisis.
This first volume focuses on the immediate aftermath of the disappearances, the characters’ spiritual awakenings, and the early formation of the core group that will later be known as the Tribulation Force.
