Book of Revelation
The Apocalypse of John
Book •
The Book of Revelation, also known as the Apocalypse of John, is the only apocalyptic book in the New Testament canon and occupies a central place in Christian eschatology.
Written in Greek on the island of Patmos while the author was in exile, it presents a series of prophetic visions concerning the end times, the triumph of Christ over evil, and the establishment of God's eternal kingdom.
The text identifies its author simply as 'John,' and while Christian tradition since Irenaeus (c.
130–202 AD) has attributed it to John the Apostle, the majority of modern scholars believe it was written by a different figure known as 'John of Patmos,' who may have been a disciple of the apostle.
