This volume presents previously unpublished theological and spiritual works by Simeon, Archbishop of Thessaloniki.
David Balfour reconstructed the texts from manuscript sources, especially the Zagoras Codex, and supplied introductions, notes, references, and critical apparatus.
The writings address anti-heretical controversies, ecclesiastical life, and the spiritual theology of late Byzantium.
The edition was part of Balfour’s broader research into the complete literary output of Simeon.
It is significant both for Byzantine scholarship and for recovering an important Orthodox theological voice.
