As children of Holocaust survivors reach adulthood, they often require professional help to establish their own identity and self-esteem, having unconsciously absorbed their parents' trauma and become 'memorial candles' for the lost.

The book presents verbatim transcripts from individual and group therapy sessions, alongside analyses of dreams, fantasies, and childhood memories, tracing the patients' emotional journeys from guilt-laden family atmospheres to separation from their assigned roles through therapy.
