La Sirenetta

Book • 1837
The story follows a young mermaid princess who falls in love with a prince and decides to make a deal with the Sea Witch to trade her voice for legs.

Despite the excruciating pain and the prince's lack of romantic love for her, the Little Mermaid remains devoted.

However, when the prince marries another woman, the Little Mermaid is given a chance to return to the sea by killing the prince but chooses not to.

Instead, she throws herself into the sea and is transformed into a 'daughter of the air,' a spirit who can earn an immortal soul by performing good deeds for 300 years.
