Driving Miss Daisy

Driving Miss Daisy follows Daisy Werthan, a 72-year-old widow in 1948 Atlanta, who crashes her car, prompting her son Boolie to hire chauffeur Hoke Coleburn despite her resistance.

Initially wary due to racial and class tensions, their relationship deepens over the decades from 1948 to 1973, as Daisy teaches Hoke to read and they form a profound friendship amid the civil rights era.

Inspired by Uhry's grandmother and her driver, the play won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
