This book offers a unique interpretation of the world of slavery by exploring the parallel lives of three individuals: John Newton, a slave captain; Thomas Thistlewood, a slave owner in Jamaica; and Olaudah Equiano, a former slave who became an iconic figure in black history.

Their stories are intertwined by the Atlantic slave system, providing a comprehensive view of the era leading up to the abolition of the slave trade in 1807.
