Thespis or the Gods Grown Old

This book presents a new performing version of 'Thespis; or, The Gods Grown Old', the first collaboration between W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan.

The original opera, premiered in 1871, had most of its music lost, but this version uses music from Sullivan and Offenbach to revive the story of aging Greek gods trading places with a theatre company.

The libretto by Gilbert survives in full, and this adaptation offers a fresh take on the classic tale.
