The book explores the six wartime Christmases of the First World War, focusing on celebrations amid the shortages, tedium and dangers of trench life on the Western Front, Middle East and other fronts.

Unlike the famous 1914 truce, it covers experiences from all years, sourced from archives of the Imperial War Museum, National Archives and National Army Museum, highlighting comradeship and community even in war.
