Futility

Book • 1898
Published in 1898 as 'Futility' and revised in 1912 as 'The Wreck of the Titan', this novella by Morgan Robertson tells the story of the Titan, the largest and most luxurious ocean liner of its time, which sinks in the North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg.

The story bears striking similarities to the real-life tragedy of the RMS Titanic, including the size of the ship, the number of passengers, and the insufficient number of lifeboats.

The novella follows the character John Rowland, a disgraced former US Navy officer, and his survival after the ship's sinking.
