Frenchman's Creek

Book • 1941
The novel follows Dona, Lady St. Columb, who, tired of her shallow life in London court society, moves to her husband's remote estate in Cornwall with her children.

There, she discovers the estate is being used as a base by the French pirate Jean-Benoit Aubéry.

Despite initial prejudices, Dona finds Aubéry to be educated, cultured, and charming, leading to a romantic affair.

Together, they embark on adventures, including a successful pirate expedition.

However, their idyllic romance is disrupted by Dona's husband and his friend, leading to a series of events that force Dona to choose between her love for Aubéry and her family responsibilities.
